Life safety and Survival training
Updated On: Jun 20, 2014

The Week of June 16th the Wakefield Firefighters trained with Rescue Products International (RPI) on important life safety and survival tactics. The RPI Firefighter Escape Training focusses on more than just how to get out of a window safely. History has shown that much of the time, while the firefighter only has seconds to react to the situation that he is in, the situation has been changing in the background the entire time. Recognizing this change is key to survival. From a simple loss of water in a line to premature ventilation , the fire ground is constantly changing and evolving. The firefighter must constantly be assessing and reassessing his surroundings while he is searching or extinguishing the fire. During the RPI Firefighter Escape Training we reviewed basic fire ground operations, case studies, the RPI System and components, the NFPA 1983 Standard on Life Safety Rope and Equipment, and lastly how to deploy the system and safely exit the building to a point of safety. The training consists of both a classroom session as well as a hands-on portion.
